Writing is indeed a wonderful way to explore our nation, and who could resist learning more about the “Main Street of America” from its New Mexico setting? My back cover copy offers a glimpse:
Route 66: The Whole Enchilada tells the story of the people of Santa Cuervo, New
Mexico. Among its residents are a young boy and his teenage sister who struggle to flee
poverty and isolation amidst the town’s culture of superstition and folklore. Their odyssey to maturity, love, and prosperity are tested by deeply hidden family secrets. As Route 66 carries strangers, omens, and change into their small town, the characters are pulled into a mystery that has long been buried in the dust and silence of the desert.
The past is about to rise.

Street Prince is a tender portrait of a twelve-year-old boy, grappling with tragic losses and unforgiving poverty.
After giving birth, his teenage-mother, Letty, abandoned him at the hospital, leaving a scribbled note: "His name is Lamont, I am no fit mother. Keep my baby. "
His maternal grandmother, Elma, raises him as her own child until her estranged daughter returns home with two more children. A disastrous homecoming party takes place. Lamont meets a new classmate, the prim and proper, Esmaria. Letty agrees to leave her children with her mother but demands money in return. Her mother’s savings are not enough for Letty, so out of spite, she rips away her children and leads them into a downward spiral of utter chaos.
Letty abandons her children for days, leaving Lamont to care for his five-year-old brother and toddler sister. Alone and traumatized, Lamont trudges snow and icy streets unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. He remains determined to get his mother out of jail, reassemble his family, and befriend Esmaria. But his wit and self-reliance are not enough.
Meet Lamont Jackson, Street Prince.
